Our Rainbow Badge initiative
Our Rainbow Badge initiative creates a safe space for people in the LGBTQ+ community to discuss their identities with Sue Ryder team members in our care centres, charity shops and offices. If you see a staff member or volunteer wearing the badge, you can feel confident talking about your identity with them.

At Sue Ryder, we want to ensure that our service users, their loved ones and our customers are in a safe, open and inclusive environment.
We are so proud to introduce our Rainbow Badge initiative across the charity and help break down the barriers for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community.
What does the Rainbow Badge mean?
You may have spotted that some of our staff and volunteers choose to wear a rainbow heart badge. This badge means “I'm someone you can talk to about LGBTQ+* identities.”
Any member of the Sue Ryder team wearing a rainbow badge has completed additional training on LGBTQ+ identities, including terminology and allyship. They can help by listening and advocating, as well as signposting to further information and support.
Compassionate, expert and inclusive care
At Sue Ryder we are committed to always providing compassionate, expert and inclusive care. You can of course speak to any member of the team, whether they are wearing a rainbow badge or not, about LGBTQ+ identities.
The Rainbow Badge simply indicates that the person may be more informed and you may feel more comfortable discussing your identity with them, such as your sexual or romantic orientation and/or gender identity.
* LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and the + means that we are inclusive of all identities regardless of how people define themselves.
