In the Spring Statement today, the Chancellor spoke about the Government's commitment to improving patient care. We look forward to seeing more detail on this in their 10 Year Plan for the NHS, as right now is an important moment in time for end-of-life care.

Demand continues to grow

Due to the ageing population, demand for end-of-life care is continuing to grow immensely. The NHS and hospice sector must be able to meet that need.

Our five changes

As the Government prepares its 10 Year Plan for the NHS, we have called on them to make five important changes that would ensure people approaching the end of their lives get the care they need:

  1. Revamp hospital care with dedicated Alongside suites
  2. Increase support for people in their own homes
  3. Integrate hospices with neighbourhood health infrastructure
  4. Enhance training and collaboration
  5. Provide knowledge and resources to patients

You can read more about how the 10 Year Plan could deliver for terminally ill people in our blog from our Chief Executive James Sanderson.
