Sign our letter to the Government

Sign our letter to the government, calling on them to make support for dying and grieving people a priority.

We need to see the government make urgent improvements, as too many people are missing out on the support they need during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

  • Less than 50% of all people dying in England receive palliative care, yet estimates suggest up to 90% need this care.*
  • Research from 2022 found 70% of people were unable to access the support they would have wanted after someone close to them died.*

By signing this letter you can help to change this by bringing attention to these vital issues. The more signatures we get, the more powerful the letter is – showing just how important end-of-life care and bereavement support is to people.

Why are we campaigning?

Mike's story

Mike Pollard, one of our volunteers at Leckhampton Court, has signed our letter. He tells us why palliative care is so important, and why the government must make changes:

"The team at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice cared for my wife, Brenda, and I will never forget the support we received."

"When we arrived at the hospice, the care, love and support was just incredible. Brenda fought cancer for two years. She had become frightened of hospitals, but as soon she got to the hospice, she felt reassured. When I look back, she couldn’t have had a better place to spend her final days. The care and love they gave just blew me away."

"The care and love they gave just blew me away. But these life-changing services don’t have enough funding from the government, and many people don’t know about the help hospices give, or how to access it."

These life-changing services don’t have enough funding from the government.

Mike along with supporters whose loved ones were cared for at one of our Sue Ryder hospices, recently shared a letter to editor to their local newspapers. The letter called on readers to support our Letter to UK Government, so far we have seen them published in the Yorkshire Evening Post and Cambridge News.
