InChorus
InChorus is our anonymous online tool where all staff and volunteers can report subtle acts of exclusion which they have experienced or witnessed in the workplace.
A safe place where people feel valued
Have you witnessed or experienced something while volunteering that made you feel uncomfortable? Have you ever felt excluded because of your background or identity, or noticed a colleague or customer say or do something that was offensive or inappropriate?
As part of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, we want Sue Ryder to be a place where people feel valued and safe to share their backgrounds, identities and perspectives. Our aim is to create a healthy, happy culture where everyone can thrive together.
Help us create a more inclusive and welcoming environment
We are proud of the culture that we’re developing at Sue Ryder, but we know from our Let’s Talk and Volunteer Voice survey results that there is more work to do. That’s why we’re introducing InChorus, which offers a new safe and anonymous way for staff and volunteers to flag subtle acts of exclusion (also known as microaggressions).
InChorus is an online reporting platform where you can anonymously flag any non-inclusive behaviours you may have experienced or witnessed in a Sue Ryder setting. These can be subtle comments, actions or snubs, intentional or not, that are hurtful and linked to an aspect of someone’s identity.
Some examples might include:
- sexist “banter” or stereotyping
- facist “jokes”
- asking intrusive questions about someone’s sexuality.
The aim of InChorus is to help us identify trends and spot where issues may be arising across the organisation. The data gathered will help us to make evidence-based decisions about where to target our training and resources, so that we can make improvements where needed and create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all staff and volunteers.
Reporting on InChorus
InChorus is designed to focus on patterns of behaviour, not individual incidents.
When logging an incident, you will remain completely anonymous. You will be asked to select dropdown answers to capture some key information about what you’ve witnessed or experienced, including the type of comment or action that occurred, whether the incident is due to the behaviour of a colleague, fellow volunteer, customer or service user, and where in the organisation you work or volunteer.
The identity of any other individuals involved will also remain anonymous.

As the report is anonymous, it is important to note that you will not receive a response and no individual action will be taken. To make a complaint or log an issue for further action or investigation, please follow our usual ‘Talk to Us’ volunteer complaints procedure, by speaking to your line manager or contacting the Volunteer Helpline at volunteering@sueryder.org
InChorus is a web application, accessible 24/7 from any device and open to all our staff and volunteers. You can access the platform anytime from the Online Volunteering Hub. You can also report incidents through InChorus which took place before today.
